Control strategies preventing wastewater overflow in Oslo

As climate change intensifies storms, larger rainwater volumes load the sewage network systems above design capacity and escalate risk of combined sewer wastewater overflow to natural waterways. Accordingly, control challenge is prevent by adjusting manipulated variables, such as pumps gates, in system. The aim this study (1) compare traditional predictive strategies four different storm scenarios, (2) quantify preventive effect these on overflow. case applied Oslo Control applying feedforward strategy minimize within constraints infrastructure. Compared no control, feedforward-feedback decreases water ways 21- 88% rain scenarios. feedback strategy, can decrease 3--9%.
